  • Rebecca and I had worked out the wines for the tasting, both of these and then 2 Pinots. As for these two, the Gamma is all Syrah while the Syrache is 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache. The Gamma delivers rich dark fruits of black cherry and blackberry, but also rosemary, maybe dill, and possibly eucalyptus, and maybe a touch of blueberry (a distraction for me). Distinct black pepper in the nose and on the palate sets this wine apart from the Syrache. The Syrahce has deeper fruit - blackberry, herbs provance, maybe a touch of iodine along with some eucalyptus and coffee - (and no blueberry) and more herbs. Both wines are approachable and will continue to improve and reward over time. Not much sediment in either wine. 14.2% alc. for Gamma ad 14.1% alc. for Syrache. With roasted pork tenderloin for the Ampelos private virtual tasting with Rosalie Fessier, Butch and Lynne Smiley and Peter and Rebecca Work. Both Recommended, and yes, the Syrache appeared to be preferred.
