  • Entering this from original handwritten notes: Decanted for 5 hours. Tasted green. Let it stand for 2 days...things finally started to come around.

Color was very dark plum. Deep and bold. Aroma of earth, spices, licorice and dark berries. Taste: The fruit (with earth notes) came out on the second day and the finish became smooth and more Merlot-ish. But just not fully developed yet, so it is unfair to judge.

Going to hold for at least 5 years before trying again. With Russell Bevan as the winemaker, I'm confident this will get better and justify something in the 90s eventually.

  • Sampled this wine at the Vine Vault in Atlanta back in August. This was the WOTN imo as was the opinion of my entire party. Deep, dark and brooding with medium plus acidity and tannins. Good balance for a wine of such youth. I didn't get any of the green or vegital notes that others on this forum indicated. In fact, I liked it so much that I came back for seconds. Wound up purchasing 3 bottles. This hit me in my yummy bone for sure. Notes of cocoa, cardamom and leather are backing up big jammy black fruits. Very lush. It will be interesting to see where this wine is in 10 years.

  • Tasted at a Vine Vault tasting in Austin.......prep time may have been an issue? Light green/weedy nose, which I personally find very offputting. The wine has the requisite smoothness of a Bevan product, but is there such a thing as green berry fruit? And tart, at that.....not a fan. Not this bottle. Tight and nowhere near ready. Gotta lose the green for me to get near another bottle.

  • One hour slow ox. Deep dark magenta color. Frappuccino and pyrazines (smells like dandelion in this case) on the green nose. Smooth, dry palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

This is young and tight. The very strong green note is concerning. Things may resolve themselves, but I’m unlikely to risk it at this price point.

  • 2021 Napa - June 9-12: Served first with the 2018 Tench, this had the most expressive nose of all of the wines and blind I would have put it as the Tench. Still some baby fat left to meld, but can be drunk with a decant.
