Deep purple colour. Medium and developing nose with blueberry, black plum, licorice and smoke. Medium taste of blueberry, black plum, black pepper, licorice, cedar, leather and forest floor. Medium long and dry finish. Medium acidity. Medium tannins. Full body. A good Malbec that lacks some length and concentration. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well with beef or lamb.

No secret that I'm a big fan of Colome's Estate Malbec, which consistently punches above it's weight. The 2019, unlike prior vintages, is not drinking particularly well at this young stage. The aroma is promising: plum, dried herbs, white pepper, baking spice and crushed gravel. It has promise on entry, with dark fruit and minerality, wrapped in a creamy texture. But it's tightly wound, with aggressive muscular tannins, and unfortunately short right now. It did improve in glass, so I'm hopeful for its future, but this will disappear into the cellar and not come out for several years.

As usual this wine overdelivers for the price point. A more rustic palate where oak is judiciously used, and the high toned black fruit dominates the finish.

Oaky yet quite savoury. Dark fruited, serious and has lots of personality. Very Old World, leaner in style, tight and quite tannic. I like it a lot.

Ripe fruit, well-oaked, grippy tannins. It is well made with obviously beautiful fruit. It's good value. I just can't fall for it.
