2018 Domaine Fournier-Longchamps Savennières La Croix Picot was pure, juicy and expressive. The youthful Loire Chenin Blanc was clear and pale lemon in colour. Aromas of ripe red apples, Bartlett pears, melon and white blossom were accompanied with a whiff of gunflint smokiness.
The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, with high level of crisp acidity. It tasted like a glass of vibrant apple juice garnished with lemon zest, smoke and salt. The finish was of medium length. The alcohol level was at 13.5%. The wine was certified organic by Agriculture France.
The Chamboreau cuvée is more intense, spicy and mineral-driven, and will benefit from careful bottle maturation. In contrast, La Croix Picot has more freshness and fruity appeal for immediate consumption.
The Chenin Blanc vines are grown on a 2.4-hectare plot composed on sandstone, schist and aeolian sands. The wine was matured in used oak for nine months on lees.

Easy drinking, crisp white with notes of yellow apple, grapefruit, cut grass, white peach, chamomile, and hay. Plenty of acidity and good body.
