  • Distinctly gold color. Medium viscosity. Floral nose with lemon and agree with prior taster that you can smell the alcohol. Nutty.

Palate — a blunted edge cooked lemon kind of vibe with a crescendo acidity that sneaks up on you. Just the faintest sense of the alcohol which drives more on the nose. A tad bitter. A hefty body gives it some modestly unwieldy muscle. A sense of graham cracker.

  • French road trip, mainly Rhône valley; 9/4/2022-9/18/2022: From 75cl in a restaurant in Châteuneuf-du-Pape, cork not seen. Relatively light and crisp, with lively acidity and good balance. Dilute entry/mid-palate, but there are some identifiable quality markers here, including licquorice towards the finish, and just good old-fashioned buoyancy, in short supply for consumers in the Rhône valley right now while all restaurants, let alone producers in these parts desperately try to sell off their 2021s... This was a particular relief after trying two unknown-to-us, relatively expensive, white 2021 CdP by the glass, which merely confirmed my following prejudices: 1. be very wary of any white Rhöne wine from the 2021 vintage, and 2: be very, very wary of any CdP producers you have never heard of before. In both cases worth noting: hold your wallet tightly closed. 88P

  • No decanting. Tasted after been in the fridge 1 hour and after that tasted over 3 hours in a warmer condition.

    The nose:
Green Apple, lemon, hay, umature pineapple. Somewhat flinty. A fine amount of oak at the end.

    The palate:
Lemon, pineapple, Apple, banana, flint, and clay. Oak is not showning on the palate as much, as the nose.

Very fresh, vibrant, easy to drink.

    Acidity medium
    Tannin low
    Body medium+

Robert Parker gave this 91 and i'm right on there.
This is not a fair price, but this is a very low pricepoint - 93P

  • PnP initially well chilled. On opening it's a little austere and minerally, plus a kick of alcohol (14.5% is really rather high for a white in my opinion). After a few minutes air the palate broadens out. There's white flowers and citrus on the nose. But also that inescapable alcohol heat.

On the palate this is less rich in mouthfeel than many white Rhones, with nice balancing acidity. The flavours follow the nose with the addition of some drying minerality. The finish is clean and flinty. But still with some alcohol burn.

For me this would be a rather nice wine at, say, 12-12.5% alcohol, but for me it is just a bit hot as it is, and therefore not a repeat buy for me.

EDIT: to be fair, after it's been open for 3 hours the heat has burnt off, and so has a little of the acidity. It ends up as a fairly bland, slightly white flower tinted wine. Very inoffensive, but rather unmemorable.

  • Higher acid that many white Rhones. Nice with Thai curry.
