Popped and slow ox’ed for an hour. Spritely and vigorous, were not for the depth and integration I’d guess this is much younger. Big aromatics of spice, vanilla, and eucalyptus. The nose blends seamlessly into parallel flavors and a long, lingering finish.

Overall, superbly structured, concentrated, ageworthy, and remarkably affordable. Tasted right beside a 2011 Izadi, this 15 year old was a shade darker than the youngster! Pours with a faint stewed tomato aroma, which blows off by swirling the glass. The nose has cedar, leather, tobacco, and even a little smoked meat. The mouth initially features dense black cherry fruit and a softened texture, but about 30 seconds later bright acidity and still firm and drying tannin both clamp down on the wine. The acidity is powerful enough to cleanse out any food and the tannin is powerful enough to take on any bloody steak or fatty duck. The swallow coats the mouth and the final finish is bone dry. The temporary stew taste up front is a good warning that this wine needs to be sampled regularly in order to determine whether it should drunk up within the next 1 to 3 years.

Overripe stewed fruits, inky, dark, but not a proper modern style fruit bomb, as fruits were muted. Seemed heavy and w/o elegance. Well, it was ok, but not more.

Fading a little from previous bottles, this is still a wonderful Rioja. Even better the second day. Doesn't show all the explosive nose and palate-pleasing characteristics of earlier experiences, but this is a fine bottle of wine. One more left, that I'll wait until next year to try.
