Similar to mid-range left-bank Bordeaux, but without the plushness that merlot provides. Lean cassis and plum with Bordeaux-like pyrazines. There is also a touch of black spice that you wouldn’t find in Bordeaux. Moderate tannins, moderate acidity.

I saw another note from someone who did not like this wine. I found it wesk on taste was not long. Very heavey on tannis abd strongly acid. I held it for 2 years, maybe too long?

Striking Acid purple color with magenta rim. A little sour and lacking structure on the middle. Nothing on the nose. Day two the same. No redeeming qualities. Maybe something to do with tannat grape, which I’m unfamiliar with.

Clear dark inky garnet purple with a slight watery rim. Interesting nose is dominated by juicy young red fruits, a hint of dried flowers and cardamom spices, leather and red meat. The palate is very dry, medium-bodied, refreshing acidity, tannic as expected given the variety (80% Tannant, 20% Cabernet Franc), region (Madiran) and it’s relatively young age (5 years), nonetheless easy drinking with an hour of air, somewhat spicy perhaps from the alcoholic heat which seems to be much bigger than the 13.5% indicated on the label. The flavor is dominated by lively red fruits with considerable old vine intensity, Ceylon black tea, floral and brambly herbal overtones, very mild oak influence, and a flash of earthy minerality towards the clean and dry finish. A very interesting old world expression of this varietal and very different as compared to the new world (Uruguayan) example I tried a few months ago. I can see that this wine continue to develop and improve over the next few years. But for now, this is definitely a food friendly wine. This sturdy and somewhat rustic wine paired very well with beef wellington, with a rich red wine sauce and cream infused mashed potatoes.

Dark ruby colour. Currant/cherry, pencil lead, toast and milk chocolate nose. Earthy, savoury flavours on the palate are enrobed in dry, well mannered tannins. Good length and complexity. 4/5
