  • First 67° F drink from the bottle: this is not so dry at all. Candy sugar mixes with sensations of crowded summer fairs in a silverskin of saccharide. Great expression of Riesling character, plenty acid, framed soulful Polaroid. I'll give this a chill, heat up the steak skillet, and report back with an edit here.
8/20. 3 DAYS later, it is a better drink. The slick streak of confectionary has melted into the fabric, leaving something approaching the sensation of dryness. The frame is narrowly bounded and filled with action. Just now, I am I able to read its Kamptal mark of salt-cured herb stems. Acidity here is a tempest in a teapot, lashing and domesticated. The barest, slightest, canned fruit cocktail vibe just won't vacate, even as it coexists with something recognizable as a successful terroir wine.

  • Serious dry Kamptal Riesling, sourced from the terraced vineyard plots (mainly primary rock soils) around the hamlet of Zöbing (municipality of Langenlois, about twelve kilometers northeast of Krems an der Donau). Bright lemon-green in color with silver reflections and an expressive nose revealing scents of ripe pear, apple, honey, lots of mineral nuances and a slight touch of petrol. The well-balanced palate is characterized by juicy yellow stone- and citrus fruit, a good depth, quite a viscous texture and is framed by a beautiful line of acidity. Complex aftertaste with a delicate touch of honey. An excellent companion to fish and white meat dishes. Optimal enjoyment: now–2025.
