Monday Night Festive Blinds (Hawksmoor Guildhall): A reserve bottle very kindly opened when something was needed to go with the cheese. The wine rarely outclasses the cheese quite so convincingly. Lovely earthy nose, and it's all going on on the palate. There's still structure there - tannin and even some fruit, but a length to it too. A lovely end to a lovely evening.

BWCCC Cycling Planning Meeting (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Last sampled by the CT community over 8 years ago... Ye need have feared not; this is still very much alive and kicking. Palate has a rich, cool fruited leathery maturity. Very well balanced and none of those feassome Tannat tannins; all beautifully melded away. There is a subtle maron glacé sweetness to the palate too. Compact but perfectly formed.

some maturity on the edge fascinating nose with plenty of secondary notes. Very well balanced palate, fruit and mineral elements. Lots going on and excellent with food.

Weekly tasting group #172; Bordeaux 1998 (@ VD): In the bouquet fresh dark berries which are even still a bit creamy and lactic. Same on the palate. Red berries as well. Luxurious oak. The red fruit acidity dominates a bit. There is soft tannin and bitterness and the wine still has a good bite. More youthful and less impressive than the 1990, but still a beautiful and lovely wine with still some years of future ahead. 90 for this evening.

Very good example of Bouscassé VV, but there are better. The nose is yeasty, quite meaty at first, with redcurrants and cherry aromas, plus a touch of leather and vanilla. The attack is good, broad and fulsome, with smooth redcurrant flavours and a second wave of wild strawberry, but the follow-through is a little mute and stilted. It could get better with a few more years in the cellar.
