I drink a ton of Syrah, from many sources, and wanted to try a high-scoring wine from Hors Catégorie. The 2018 is a powerful wine, very similar in style to the Tynan Judge Vineyard Syrah from California. The wine is very deeply colored, with a nose that seems a bit gamey on first sniff, but integrates better with air over an hour or two. Then I find red plums, spice, scorched earth. On the palate, medium-bodied, tart, but richly flavored. I find a medicinal note, rather bitter, on the finish that fades a bit with air, but still strikes me as being a bit overly assertive. The heat of the vintage could account for this, but if so I wouldn’t assume it will vanish anytime soon. Excellent with ratatouille.

First of these I've tasted. Cayuse syrah style, but even more concentrated yet elegant and complex. Another perfect wine from Baron, and already perfectly drinkable. Ric

Delicious, meat, wet river stone and slate, wild blackberry, iris. Tremendous flavors and aromas that pounce from the glass.
