Drank after ~ 3 hours open/aerated, side by side wit 18 Rancia.
Lovely darker fruit expression of sangiovese, very smooth and certainly thicker/fuller in flavor and mouthfeel than Rancia. Noone could decide one was better than the other, just different. Plenty of structure to age- think this will be beautiful in 7-10 years with some secondary notes coming through.

Top of Poggio Arancia at 410 mas elevation on a much less fertile site. Big, stony soils which made it difficult to convert to vinegrowing.
Took two years to establish planting (around 1986). If I got it right the first commercial vintages was around 2006.
The history of name Colonia related to places of relaxation whre people would come to get sun and get better (very sunny due to gradient and exposure to sunlight).
30 mths on barriques, incl malo in barriques.
Intense nose with a very fruit-forward nature of partly fresh, cooked and liquer-like fruit. Almost bramble, creme de cassis-like, which the sales rep from producer agreed on. Also a crushed stone-aspect to the aromas. The black-fruit aspects is especially interesting and sets it apart from many Chianti I've tried.
Great balance and interplay of acidity to the richness and fruit, giving a lift to the full-bodiedness.
Wine has a juicy, very appealing character even now (despite being quite young).
(tasted at Operaterassen in Stockholm)

PNP at restaurant. Good but still relatively simple. Just needs more time to come together. Hold.
