Among the best surprises of this year. Old School, in all regards. The winemaker showcased the terroir's purity.
Plush Merlot encompassing a bold Cabernet Sauvignon core. Balanced extraction, oak treatment, and for such a ripe vintage, the 13.5 abv was much appreciated.
A grocery outlet purchase for under $15, me thinks, which makes it an exceptional value. No notice of brett...but lots of tobacco, worn leather, lathered horse, funk, and cool-climate forest floor.
The brettiest bottle of wine I've ever tried (and slightly effervescent, to boot). Out of 4 bottles, two were slightly funky but drinkable, and two were bretty enough that we dumped them.

Not decanted, consumed over ~1 1/2 hours. Young, dark cherry-fruited, fully ripe but not sweet, well-balanced with plenty of structure, just a touch bretty (I think) but not enough to detract, for my palate. For an inexpensive Bordeaux, I enjoyed this and am glad to have a few more.

Dark purple, lots of extraction, and firm structure. A bit rustic with flavors of plum, cherry, and graphite. A nice inexpensive bordeaux.

Brett...more than the last bottle, and enough that it went down the drain.
