I had low expectations for this and was very pleasantly surprised. Served with a dinner of bison bolognese over pasta, this was really singing after being opened for a few hours. There was a great balance between cherry and red fruit and the earthy side of earth, mineral, tobacco. This proved to be a wonderful wine with hearty food and I'm glad it showed well, considering I've been cellaring it for ~6 years.

Decanted for around 20 mins. Dark garnet color. Nose of earthy, soil aromas with some tobacco, smoke, plums and black cherry. Similar flavors on the palate with the earthy flavors coming through along with some tart, dark red fruits and cassis and a bit of bitter chocolate on the back end. Medium acid and tannins. A bit thin on the mouthfeel and finish though. Overall an enjoyable 10 year old bordeaux for a good price.

In the end, a solid recommendation by Gary Vaynerchuk. He was spot on about this wine opening up and being quite nice after a few years. Drink up now, this should only fade from here!

I'm no authority, but this is about what I'd expect from a $20 Bordeaux. Some fruit, some mineral. Food friendly, but nothing to get excited about. Mrs. BBob may have liked it more.

(Chateau Sansonnet) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-a mixture of beautiful cherry/strawberry; a little cedar box; also a Crème Brule component; TASTE-this wine is desert dry; gorgeous coffee & mocha on the mid-palate that transitions beautifully to cigar meets white asparagus head meets a bunch of plum, cherry & raspberry; extreme length; great body; this wine will sing in 36-48 months; also has the backbone to last 15-20 years easy; top class balanced Bordeaux; this wine is Killer; GV-91+
