This was such a beautiful wine. Popped and poured and decanted at the restaurant. This just evolved over the evening from strong tar and red fruits, to cloves, baking soda, and other brown spices, to notes of menthol and eucalyptus. The sort of wine that at the end, with only drops left, but just sat and smelled the glass until we left the restaurant. Everything I love about old Barolo. This will easily go another five to ten years, and probably longer.

Slow ox for three hours. Cherry red with limited bricking. The nose is subdued. The palate is crisp cherries, motor oil and earth. Medium bodied with a reasonable amount of tannin here giving it a little bit of a rustic feel. Reasonably long finish. This is solid effort and by no means over the hill but lacks the refinement of the best baroli.

SLDS Christmas with Gavin: Licorice, spice, earth and funk. Palate is soft initially but then there is quite a bit of tannin toward the mid palate. Drink now.
