Wine Rating Methodology 96-100: One of the most enjoyable wines I have ever tasted. I would not hesitate to open this wine for any Master of Wine. 91-95: Extremely enjoyable wine that I would drink and buy again. Fantastic to open up for those who appreciate wine. 85-90: Decent to good wine. Weekday bottle you don’t feel guilty about not finishing. Below 85: would not drink or buy again. ***Price of wine vs. enjoyment (value) is taken into consideration ***I do not provide tasting notes as everyone’s palate is different and will have a different experience.

An experience. Not for the faint of heart. Complex. Potent. Exceptional. You have to be up for this, it's something else. Initially, I was not prepared and the intensity was overwhelming. The next day, I came back for a pour, had my expectations in place and was bowled over.
Big. Deep. Smooth. Grapes and raisins. Just a mouthful of red and black grapeness that has it all.
Field blend consisting of Zinfandel and Carignan, Alicante Bouschet, and Palomino (aka Chasselas Doré). Interplanted Muscadelle, Colombard, Muscat of Hamburg, Aramon, Petit Bouschet, Criolla Mediana, and Grand Noir also make an appearance. Saitone Ranch is the oldest of the old-vine vineyards remaining in the Piner-Olivet area of Sonoma with records indicating that the vines were in the ground as early as 1895.
15.3% alcohol. 290 cases.

Notes of dark fruit, black raspberry and plum, with elements of herbs and spice. Velvety mouthfeel with some acidity and well integrated tannins. Paired well with grilled BBQ ribs.

This wine has a deep, bright violet color. The nose is not very expressive. The flavor is mostly blackberry with some cinnamon and molasses undertones. The body is full with a silky mouthfeel and a fresh, generous finish. The tannins are silky with no bitterness. This wine is pretty young for a heavy red, but it's totally approachable now. It has 15.3% EtOH which is higher than I like, but very typical for a zinfindel. There is some ripeness resulting in some jam, but there's enough acidity to make it acceptable. This is one of my top three vineyards out of the Carlisle portfolio. This went exceptionally well with our pizza dinner.
