Community Tasting Notes (13) Avg Score: 89.3 points

  • NOSE: Fruity; citrus/lemon, marzipan, sweet almonds. After a few minutes; seawater, fresh oysters, sea shells. After another few minutes, the Semillon-like almond/marzipan notes return. (88-90p)
TASTE: Mature, medium rich, slightly viscous body. Rather typical (i.e. rather neutral) mature Chardonnay nose. Lemon/citrus and apple fruitiness. Initially not much marine Chablis characteristics. Gradually some appear but overall this remained a well made, mature, zesty Chardonnay which spoke very little about its place of origin. (87-89p)
OVERALL: Very nice, mature but still fresh and vibrant 17 YO 1er cru Chablis (and best of all; no premox!). Remained completely unchanged one day after opening. TOTAL SCORE 89 points.

  • Straw / pale gold colour.
Nose: Butter, maize, some ripe citrus, hints of pineapple. With some air come smoke and more ripe lemons. (89p)
Mouth: Quite rich arrival, some butteriness, minerality. Not very much seawater or shellfish notes, it seems that the casks and fermentation process are more in the foreground. The exit is slimmer than the arrival, less buttery and there is more acidity/freshness and classic Chablis fruitiness. All in all medium to medium rich bodied. The aftertaste is medium long, fruity, waxy, slightly oily and with mild notes of smoke. All in all this is very well balanced and very drinkable (90p)
Very much alive, mature, but not over the hill. Should keep for another 1-3 years.
    Total score 89 points.

  • Sadly, Pre Moxed!

  • This would be awesome but for minor signs of Premox on the nose. The palate is bold, minerally, balanced and text book but the nose is a detractor. Would be a 93pt wine but for the nose. I have two more btls and will be popping them asap. Hopefully one or both of those will be uneffected. I kept the cork in the btl as we drank it to protect it from air and I'd suggest a smaller glass than normal if you pick up the premox. This btl did not need air.

  • WES Burgundy Tour (Hotel Le Relais Fleuri): A subtle nose, custard and caramel with an underlying freshness.
This drinking quite well but it's going no further. Good steeliness with a hint of oxidisation.
