  • Complex nose. Lean bodied with stout tannin. This drinks more like a classic old world wine. Dark fruited. I like the classic stylings here. The acidity and tannin levels indicate a pretty long window for this one.

  • so, i've been on a bit of an obsessive kick regarding the San Lorenzo Vineyard, kept by the Segesio family (not the Seghesio brand, but the original family). This is the third of 3 zin blends that come out of that vineyard... The Seghesio, the Journeyman, and...this bottle by Ridge.
On the nose: sour cherry, plum on the palate...kinda fruity at first taste...further back on the tongue was more complex...more spicier. There was some magic with smoked venison...the pairing made the meat seem more dry aged for some reason... i liked it a lot...i thought it might be a bit more sour cherry than the other two offerings of the San Lorenzo Zin blends...this one had 65% Zinfandel, 26% Petite Sirah, 9% Alicante Bouschet according to this website: https://shop.ridgewine.com/shopping_cart/p-2098-2019-san-lorenzo.aspx
    delicious!

  • Whiffs of American oak immediately followed by stony blackberry. Shows low extraction by look. Rich feeling. A little bit grippy. Overall the structure is pretty damn good. They've really showed some restraint here even if the fruit saw plenty of ripeness. In that you notice the alcohol around the edge of the nose and palate. That's easy to ignore given the classic build here. This likely has room to open. The overall build is a big plus. The warmth and the glycerin in the midpalate are the minuses. I'm tempted to give this another 2-4 years. I'm also tempted to buy more. One of the better recent bottlings. Lets hope they get more from this property.

  • PnP was closed. Decanted for an hour. Medium to medium-dark ruby. A very oaky nose with some floral elements behind it. Medium bodied, medium acidity, dry, a very structured wine. Bramble and wood are the only flavors on the palate. Strong grippy tannins. Long tannic finish of licorice and mineral.

Everything about this wine is screaming it needs more time to open up. Poured back in to the bottle and will revisit this tomorrow.

Day 2: Nose is much more open – Cherries, bramble, cherry blossom, cedar, and oak spices. Palate is very linear – Starts off with cherries, bramble, blackberries, and a bit of olive. Dusty tannins. Medium long licorice finish with granite and spices. Going to revisit again tomorrow.

Day 3: Finally this wine feels like it is approachable. Dark chocolate now shows up on the nose and finish. Palate is restrained and very refined at this point. A bit more warmth on the finish than I typically like.
