Cellared since release, wanted to keep it a bit longer but it looks really mature now, so no regrets. Lovely golden-yellow colour, starting to bronze on the edges. Punchy aromatics, underripe mango/cantaloupe/white peach, honeyed/candied slightly but very mineral and linear, those classic, crisp grassy Riesling terpenes, everything in great harmony. Palate feels both weighty and textural while retaining a sense of transparency. Amazing balance, length driven by the sweetness, excellent acid structure, bravo.

My first auslese so be warned! Plenty of acidity to balance the sweetness, some petrol (not much), this probably isn't going to be my style as I can't really handle more than one glass, but this is obviously a really good example of the genre. I'm guessing that this wine is bullet-proof and will last many more years.

(ZELT-SONN Auslese Selbach-Oster) Selbach-Oster #2 Dear Friends, Ok, so I had a lot of people email me about last week’s Selbach-Oster offer challenging the fact that the Wehlener-Sonnenuhr is his best vineyard and that the Zeltinger-Sonnenuhr is “without question” his best parcel. Please remember, I did not make that statement - I merely reiterated what Johannes told me regarding 2006 only. I think most would agree that the Zeltinger-Sonnenuhr is almost always his best site and it is from this vineyard that he nips small amounts for his limited production Rotlay et al. When I posed this question to Johannes about Wehlener vs. Zeltinger in 2006, he was a man of few words “Why don’t they try both - I don’t think it will be a waste of their time?” Interesting. Johannes Selbach is a staunch critic of his own wines and considering his comments stating 2006 Mosel Auslese is potentially better than the best botrytis vintages of the last half century (better than 1976 or 1959) this may be something you want to take advantage of. My guess is that this wine is worth your investigation... So, there you have it - a pretty simple offer straight from the horse’s mouth on a wine that is barely available in the US - the 2006 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger-Sonnenuhr Auslese for a price that is very tough to pass up. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ONE SHIPMENT ONLY directly form the winery cellar: 2006 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger-Sonnenuhr Auslese Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Germ9610

Just had a quick taste last night. Lovely nose, medium bodied and finishing a little dryer than expected. Very nice, will last a long while.
