Very weird. This was “funky” on top also, but didn’t clear. Yeasty, earthy with lemon Think it’s a bad bottle, which is a first for us with Schramsberg.

A real funk when first opening, but that blew off within a few minutes as it warmed up a bit. Mushroom and nuttiness prevailed on the nose. More mushrooms and nuts on the palate, but also a fair amount of baked apples, with some peach, orange/citrus pastry cream and typical leesy notes. A creamy texture was quite nice, but the overall balance just felt off with this bottle. 8 g/L of RS makes me wonder if this is a case where less is more in terms of dosage. I paired it with pan seared duck breast and grilled broccoli rabe, and it held up well in that department. While I generally love the LD bottlings from Schramsberg, this one left me wanting.

Received this as part of a Riddler's Circle Wine Club shipment a few months back. This wine was aged for over 10 years on the lees in the Diamond Mountain caves on property. The blend is 90% Pinot Noir & 10% Chardonnay and was disgorged in late November 2021.
It pours out a nice dark gold color in the glass. Served in a Glasvin universal stem to let it open up a little in the glass. On the nose, this wine gives off scents of yeast, honey, quince, yellow peach, and red fruits. On the palate, I get flavors of yellow and red fruits, butterscotch, and a touch of bread. Overall, a very lovely wine from a personal favorite!

The smell was off-putting, like funky cheese. Nobody in my wine tasting group enjoyed it. First Schramsberg fail for me.
