Second bottle of this wine just to see if my first impressions would stick, unfortunately this is certainly a very standard Pinot very little in terms of personality. Never been disappointed by a Trapet bottling but this I am. Raw and chalky. meh.

Interesting comment from someone who mentioned this was raw and tasted a little like Barbera, pretty good analogy. Bright Cherry, orange peel, crushed florals and strong herbal notes. The palate is bright, chalky with that raw descriptor really shining through, there is a little depth to this and for the level it is ok, certainly not village status. Just missing a little focus.

Dark but refined on the nose with aromas of blackberry compote, wild strawberry, sweet cherry, a mix of fresh and almost rottening flowers (a kind of reduction, I think), black strawberry tea, a mild green cluster touch, dried hibiscus, sweet black licorice, a mild malolactic touch, hints of pepper and a big earthy and tar-like minerality. It’s medium-bodied, quite fleshy with a super juicy and prickling acidity and mild, but relatively green, crunchy tannins. Blackberry-strawberry mix, strawberry compote, sweet dried red and black berries, hints of black olives and “Lakrisal”, pepper and this almost rotten (in a delicious way) floral undertones.
At the same very raw and uncontrolled, still relatively polished and elegant. Almost a Pinot Noir with hints of high level Barbera. The dark fruit of 2020 really shines through.

Visite au Domaine Trapet (Jean et Jean-Louis) (Au domaine): Nez animalier, qui s'estompera vite. Bouche très fraîche et délicate, avec un fruité croquant. Délicieux! 89+ pts
