Supposedly years past its prime but this bottle was well structured with soft tannins and drinking beautifully. Tobacco, dark cherry, hickory and cinnamon.

Clear medium plus ruby in colour; clean medium nose of cedar, tobacco, tar and plums; dry; pfn with beautiful fruit notes, cinnamon and pronounced tobacco; medium body; medium acidity; medium finish; medium tannins; pleasantly surprised that an older Barbera would develop this complexity while maintaining lightness; very cool wine

Decanted for two hours. Beautiful dark ruby with a tinge of garnet. Bright in the glass, thick texture. Lovely nose of black fruits, thyme and vanilla. Medium-full bodied on the palate, with an ultra-long finish. A brilliant wine. Alas, no more of this in the cellar!

Four years ago I tasted this wine and commented that it needed 4 to 5 years to integrate and reach its potential. Well, four years later it is there. A youthful purple-ruby colour, with a very sexy nose of red fruits, vanilla, oak and spices. Quite lovely on the palate, with sweet fruit, soft tannins and beautiful balance. The oak still shows, but is unobtrusive. Drink now or over the next 10 years.

I have refrained from assigning a rating to this wine. The wine is superb in each of its elements - structure, fruit, acidity, tannin - but is far from sewn together and integrated. Too early to drink; try again in 4-5 years. Projects to be a brilliant wine.
