Dark ruby red, with fading around the rim. Elegant and very pleasant aromas of slight leather, blackberries, vanilla, tobacco, and carob. Medium to full body, with high concentration of fruit, including flavors of black wild fruits and some chocolate. Fantastic balance, but on the extreme side with big acidity and loads of toasted oak – a little too much actually, though pretty well integrated with the fruit provided. Soft and very well integrated tannins. Long finish with a fantastic aftertaste. Overall a very tasty and elegant wine, though less toasted oak would have made it even better. Drinking very well now, but can cellar nicely for a few more years.

Traditional v Modern Rioja (28-50, London): Reduced? Burnt rubber. Extensive and agressive glass to glass decanting seems to make the issue clearer - corked.
