Opened this in 2008 for a friend who was visiting for the weekend and had never tried port, quite a lovely introduction. No comparison to the 1966 vintage I had in 1996, which was much more complex and rich, but could easily pass for vintage port, as good or better at 9 years old than their 30-year old NV. Rich mouth feel, velvety, spicy aroma, typical Noval tannins and spice, fantastic with chocolate. Perfect now, but seems like this could last another five or ten years.

Very nice nose of cherry and plum, and a touch of alcohol. Color is very dark for an LBV, this has quite a bit of heat when first opened and was a little thin on the palate. However, after by 4+ hours it was starting to integrate nicely and the heat disapated quite a bit ,it also thickened considerably. Not too complex but a nice balance of fruit and tannins to give this a good 5+ years to mature in bottle. 88 now but will increase a bit in a few years time.

The color is a very dark, opaque purple. The nose is slightly reticent but gives off nice fruity aromas. On the palate, lots of ripe fruit and very good tannic structure, medium acidity, good body. Some coffee and prunes on the finish. A very nice LBV that seems a little dryer than most ports to me and drinks more like a vintage port than a LBV. 50 + 5 + 11 + 16 + 8
