  • This wine pours medium gold in the glass. The nose is moderately expressive on opening but fans out nicely with air show lovely aged complexity without any evident oxidation. The nose is of marzipan, blonde tobacco, white mushroom, crushed chalk, white flowers, mint, dried lemon rind, and green leafy herbs. The palate enters on lemon with a touch of pear on the mid-palate. Acid seems to be medium minus with some clear herbal and pithy bitterness. While the finish isn't terribly long there are pleasant whisps of marzipan, mint, and chalky mineral rounding things out nicely. All in all this is a pleasant surprise. While this is simply labelled as a bourgogne, and I treated it as such, apparently there is better, declassified wine in the bottle, yet its exact origins are a mystery. If I were speculating I'd guess some Chablis and Puligny is in the mix here. What's remarkable is the condition here. Its nice to see good aged complexity without any evident oxidation at all. Very nice wine.

  • Confrerie Chapitre De Vigne En Fleur (The French Table Bistro - Vancouver, BC): This was showing fairly advanced, with caramel, lemon rind, and ripe green apple peels coming through on the nose. Nice richness on the palate, with ripe green apples, some caramel, a touch of ginger spice, and tart lemon juice citrus. Some nice white flowers with a touch of orange zest as well peek through. Great acidity on the finish, with nice richness and balance. Still vibrant acidity but this is getting towards the end of it's window. No reason to wait any longer on these. Very good

  • A fair bit of funk present upon opening, but it blew off with a bit of time. Lots of charred oak on the nose, as well as lemon oil and some cheese funkiness. More burnt oak coming through on the palate, with some lemon notes and stewed pear. Nice acid, with a long tangy finish. David's notes are spot-on, a great drink for the price. My last bottle, and probably the best.

  • Much better then previous bottle, but this wine seems to be almost done. It's been a great ride though.

  • Clear gold. This one seemed quite oxidated. Some apple fruit and a bit of a soft finish. Not as good as other bottles.

(Remoissenet Père et Fils Bourgogne Chardonnay) A bright lemon yellow. The nose betrays a hint of old oak plus a little higher toned citrus. Reasonably fat with a blend of citrus and pear fruit. Good acidity and a medium finish make this a very pleasant wine. At first I thought this wine could happily be left a couple more years - but gradually you start to get a little hazelnut and perhaps an oxidised note on the finish - so why wait drink this now - it's pretty good.
