Caberent Based Lunch (Schur House - Riverwoods IL): Small glass tasted double blind. Fully mature, clearly New World style Cab. Enough fruit, lots more earth. Not as much charm or nuance as I would have hoped for.

Deep, dark garnet in color with slight bricking & clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with classic cigar box overtones of cedar wood & tobacco, leather, spices/herbs, earthy/dusty, minerals, mocha, & a smoky notes in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with smoky spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa, cedar & earthy notes. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but is most likely at its peak of development at 40 years of age & while I not detect it being in a decline, I doubt any further development would occur. So, drink up! [Cork was clean & intact; fill was in the upper portion of the neck.]

Remarkably good for such an old wine. Color was garnet with just a hint of brown around the edge of a glass. Of course, no fruit to speak of, but there were no really off tastes. Mostly leathery tastes with a bit of cigar box. Held its own for several hours - did not fall off a cliff after fifteen minutes like some old wines.
