Popped the cork and let it breathe for an hour in the bottle. Drinking from Spiegelau Definition Burgundy glass.
Light red, almost purple hue in the glass. I smell red fruit, cherries, pepper, herbaceous notes. Some light tobacco? Acidity is nice and fresh. Nice light and fresh bottle for a weeknight with some bread, aioli, cheese and fuet.
Will probably develop more through the evening. Drink now untill next 5 years or so.

Consistent with what others are noting, more muted on the nose, certainly the fruit is very difficult to find in particular, but compared to the 2019 the palate is also more dilute as well. What remains though are well managed tannins and ample savory characteristics. Pepper, stem. No obtrusive oak
I have been following these wines a bit now. I snagged some of this Mencia and his Rioja to try out. Mencia is completely new to me. Wine Folly had a good recent write up on it actually. This would be a fun wine to blind taste people on as my initial thoughts ran to Pinot Noir. Transparent ruby purple in color. Aromas at PnP were a bit of barnyard funk, cherries, pomegranates, crushed stone, and maybe some fresh herbs. On the palate it’s lighter bodied, fruity, acidic with tight tingly tannins. Excited to have it with dinner and see how it evolves over a night or two. Would be a good Thanksgiving wine!
Initial PnP I would have scored 89-90. After a few hours airing in bottle it was worlds better. gaining a bit of weight and blowing off some of the funk. Started to remind me more of a Gigondas almost. Very drinkable, great price, very food friendly. 93 for me.

I am reserving much judgement and will update this, because i actually had very little of the bottle. Good news - people over drank it down and enjoyed it.
My thoughts are that the nose is recessed (early? dumb?) and its is very earthy. A reserved wine, and with some tannin for structure and to age. Dark fruits. No green/vegetal/young issues, just, i think, not fully integrated.
So take this with a grain of salt. Yet i see potential here. It will move off 90 - whether up or down is to be seen :-)

Should have read prior note -wine not ready and either in a "dumb" phase or just a simple wine. Left 1/2 bottle and will re-taste tomorrow night (87+ night 1). [Edit - notes from night 2: nose showing some oxidation - blacberry, saline, tobacco, on palate with that plus sweet cherry, blueberry and mineral notes on the palate. I'd argue this wine needs 3+ years to show well on night 1 - 90+/- on night 2/3]
