  • 2005 Tardieu-Laurent Gigondas Vieilles Vignes

I won't go into detail, on this wine, which I have always liked a LOT, and rather discuss how its doing 19 years in - for a S. Rhone.

    Very well, thanks.

Just delicious- and I had some educated and speedy palates at the table. It had the 2ndary and tertiary nose nad flavor development, yet it was in no way going over the hill. Still excellent color (although browning a bit) and rich fruit (tho darker than it was once). Tannins were reduced to a structured paste.

Terrific spice, earth and dark, dark fruits.

I think this can continue another 5-8 years - at least in my (real, but un controlled) cellar.

  • 2011 La Spinona (Pietro Berutti) Barbaresco Bricco Fasêt

Note this case has been problematic. One bottle was VERY flawed ("nice port")

This bottle had some issues. Overall it was very enjoyable, but it was not perfect.

This is a very dark style of Barbareesco - I dont merely mean that in color but in extraction adn character. It is less about roe petals and ethereal aromas than about dirt, richness, and other earthy, almost savory notes.

Yes, it still Barbaresco, but this tell's the shading.

Quite rich (for a Nebbiolo). Tannins very mellow. Some slight almost sweetness, which might be the start of oxidation.

Still quite delicious. Shared among 5 so limited time and wine to evaluate (plus a party in swing!)

If you have this drink it soon.

If you are buying it, beware,.

  • 2020 Tenute Neirano Barbera d'Asti Superiore Cinabro Nizza

I like it? No. I like it a LOT

So I am finding that Nizza is as close to a Grand Cru as one can have in a place without Grand Crus.

Fairly dark hue, but translucent, sorta.

beautiful fruit nose, with a few nondescript floral notes.

Gorgeous body and taste, with great acidity and superb purity of fruit. Some tannins, but they are so mature and fine that they just add to the structure and enjoyment.

If you want a big fruit bomb, or sweetness, go elsewhere. Please :-)

Some very remote earthy notes that I like

    Big thumbs up.

I expect this will last due to the acid and tannin. But I also cant imagine it will get better - a loss of right fruit would be bad. And I like old wine.
