  • I've had four bottles of this over the last six months. One was not at all good, but the other three showed a delicious wine, though not as spectacular as the 2006 that I had in the Spring. The biggest flaw is that it trends a bit on the oaky side. The poor bottle I had was very oaky, and also had a bit of a metallic taste, but the other three were fresher out of the bottle. I have not been impressed with decanting this wine -- I found the wine good straight from the bottle, not at all improved by an hour or two of air, and the slight metallic taste showed up after about two hours. My advice (and what I will do with the remainder of my stash) is to pop and drink.

When I heard Ken Forrester speak this Spring, we tasted the 2006 FMC, which I thought was really excellent, better than these 2005s.

  • Deep golden colour. Initial impression was that this has not stood up well to test of time as seemed a bit oxidised and a taste of stale oak (compared to tasting at cellar door 2 years ago where it was very fresh). However half an hour after opening it really started to shine and shows great complexity with custard, pear and honey. It is just off-dry and is noticeably oaky. Ken claims it will age - I think I'll keep a bottle to see.

  • A rich, juicy nose with a noticeable oak background. A full mouthfeel with a gentle sweetness, there's a vanilla custard aspect at the front and mid-palate, a slap of acidity and a creamy long finish with some honey. This is exceptionally well balanced with a lot of complexity, the only ciriticism is that the oak is not shy and possibly it is starting to show the first signs of age (which in no way detracts from it). Delicious, 90-91pts.

  • All oak, fat, heavy. Drink up.

  • Buttercup colour; nose blossomed, mix of primary orchard fruits, minerality & nuttiness; palate similar, with an underlying richness. Characterful, clean. Real power/ intensity, but well balanced. Surprisingly impressive. Drinking well, possibly not a long ager, but so what?!
