  • March 2022 disgorgement, 100% Chardonnay, no dosage. Clovey, the oak is here, although it's similar too in that it does have the 5-Spice note too as the same as the bottle from 2022. Juicy, with moderate complexity. Stone fruit, lime oil, yellow apple and tangerine. This is my last one and it does seem to be drinking pretty well now...retasted the final few ounces the following day, with much of the C02 gone. The oak has more of a coconut imprint today. The fruit has remained pretty consistent with yesterday, even fleshier. And I still have the impression that this is better on the sooner side, versus aging more.

  • Très droit, frais, fin, délicieux, superbe touché de bouche, bulles fines et qui se dissipent un peu rapidement, belle longueur, excellent. 93-94

Nice acidity, freshness, finesse, tight bubbles early with nice texture but the bubbles go away quickly, good, length, still an excellent Champagne.

  • Quick peek at the new vintage, but this was alas very quiet the first night opened.
On day 2, it was delicious. Not as decadent or creamy as in other vintages, but it showed a wonderful fresh yellow plum and cinnamon / grains of paradise character. With some air, it seemed to down though.
On day 3, it was friendly showing a nicely polished personality.
    Strong hold, of course.

  • Blind: Thought this was Pinot Noir dominate, wrong

I thought this saw new oak and it does. There's a caramel aroma. It's red fruit driven but where's that coming from? Who knows... There a cayenne pepper blast at the finish, oak again I'm assuming.

  • Bookclub--Wines Tasted Blind (Foretti's in Corona Del Mar): Tasted blind last night. It was from my cellar so I knew the identity but I had the advantage of taking the leftover wine home to retaste today. That differs from the bottle 2 weeks ago that I tasted with Benoit Marguet at the winery when he poured it for me during my visit. In essence, a new context with more time to evaluate. My conclusion? I still dig it! Disgorged March 2022, 100% Chard, no dosage. The aromatic top note of asian 5 spice/cinnamon is present again, I presume from the new wood this sees during elevage. It's distinct, it lifts out of the glass. When this is chilled, the tonic/mineral quality of the zero dosage is present, which like other wines of this style, can be shut down when too cold. It's shame that they get consumed this way because for me, the character and true identity of zero dosage is best showcased when a wine is not cold, but just lightly chilled. Same is true here. Tangerine and lime flesh, even a suave apple as it warms. I'd call this opulent but I fear the dosage police would come for me so I'll just say that this is an excellent fleshy version of Crayeres, but please, do not drink this cold. Give it the grace of letting that chill fade and then evaluate it.
