[A birthday wine for my wife.] Bricked garnet. Spice box, tobacco, maple syrup, evolving soil tones on the nose. Very rich fruit on the palate with a silky mouth feel moving gracefully into utterly refined acids at the back. Tannins completely gone or integrated. Moving with perfect grace. 50 + 18 + 19 + 9 = 96.

Mature and Maturing Bordeaux (Oslo): Very fine complexity, earthy, surprising amount of tannins, powerful first attack, fine length but fades a bit off a bit too soon for a spectacular bottle.

Canon dinner (Dobbs Ferry): Staggering stuff. Such an incredible, expansive aromatic profile combining all sorts of sweet and savoury elements with a spectrum of flavour ranging from cinnamon and cookie dough-like scents to ferric, rusty mineral notes in addition to the red fruited/tobacco/cedary flavour profile of classic older Bordeaux. The fruit here is still quite youthful and vibrant with a spine of bright acids keeping it fresh and precise, and the seamlessness and elegance in the mouth is hard to describe adequately - but despite its richness and power, this seems to literally float in the mouth with an incredible finesse and lightness of touch. Flat out stunning wine.

TN: Twelve from 1959, six from 1952-1962 and a 1929 La Conseillante, in secret.: Cherries, iron and mineral dominate on the nose. Integrated and nicely balanced on the palate. As with most of the wines tonight, the fruit shows remarkable sweetness. This one shows more cedar than most of the other wines tonight, which gives the wine a nice spiciness. Leather and a hint of tobacco bring up the rear. Drinking very well now. A-.
