  • Getting a bit tired, but still has some fruit. A bit of a burnt note detracts from an otherwise smooth wine.

NOSE: moderate expressive; high-toned dark fruits; medium-light oak; new plastic note.

BODY: fine particulate matter present; dark violet-garnet color of great depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: still some drying tannin and medium-light oak; empty rear palate; not much follow-through with the fruit; alc. pokes through a bit (14.3%); some garrigué on the finish; pleasant underlying mineral; medium acidity. Ashley gut impression score: 88. My gut impression score: 87 – 89 (my full score, below, falls at the upper end of this range). Drink Now, as it seems the fruit is falling away leaving behind oak and alcohol. This is probably a couple years past peak.

  • Earthy. Not fruity. Peppery finish. Very food friendly.

Better day 2. very smooth, and definitely a great food wine.

  • Night 1: Earth and spice on the nose. Palate of tobacco, cedar, earth and spice, with some dark plum and cherry notes on mid-palate. Fairly strong acid component marks the finish. Very Good.
Night 2: Earth, tobacco, plum, maybe some spices on the nose. The tobacco earth, spice and red and black fruits is much more balanced and the tannins are more integrated. Finish is spicy, tobacco and leather now. Improved but keeping in the range of Very Good.
Night 4: Happiness. Nose is a less interesting earth, tobacco, spice and mint, but pleasant enough. Getting a lovely mix on the palate, however, of spice, chocolate, wild plum (or Zwetschgen/italian plum) and a little earth and a little cut tobacco. The mouthfeel is of a lighter wine. It's way more interesting and engaging than on previous days. Excellent.
