Clear, ruby, fading to garnet and tawny at the rim. Medium plus in intensity. Many thick, dark legs. The nose reveals some brett, but not enough to make it unpalatable. The nose is of medium plus intensity. The nose is developing, with aromas of black fruit, vanilla and earth. The palate is dry, with perhaps a hint of residual sugar. The acidity is medium, the tannins, body and flavor intensity are medium plus. The alcohol, however, is pronounced and hot on the palate even after six years. Flavors are consistent with the nose. The finish is of medium length, with a pleasantly bitter flavor. This is a good wine, even very good if you like this style. It is surprisingly age-worthy. Drink not, but it might improve and become better integrated with another couple years of ageing. It is currently a little disjointed. The nose is very Burgundian but the fruit and alcohol are over-the-top California. At 16% alcohol, this Zin is almost Port-like. It is not particularly food-friendly and is somewhat tiring on the palate. Overall, an interesting wine, in an Anna Nicole Smith sort of way.

Raspberry jam, vanilla, caramel on the nose. Raspberry, boysenberry, black currant. More dark fruit with cola on the transition. Vanilla, cedar, tart fruit on the finish.

Dark boysenberry syrup pour. Big plummy nose with lots of black and white pepper aroma...some heat as well, even after one hour. Flavor is surprisingly rich with a smooth, integrated palate. Tastes of blueberries, plum, peach, apricot, some cedar, vanilla and softer peppers than in the aroma. Very nice elegant Zin that has many layers and flavors.
