  • Opened & thought this really is OTH.
Wasn't any petrol to it (which is expected), just completely flat and uninteresting.

But as always, gave it a chance to breathe and find itself again.
Which it did after an hour and became a perfectly acceptable near-the-end-of-its-drinking-window riesling.

Yes the fruit has largely faded, but somehow that doesn't mean the acids completely dominate.
Weight, mouthfeel, color are all spot on.

Bottom line: Drink 'em if you got 'em.
Not a lot left to go on here.

Also interesting is that this has a glass cork. For an aged wine I cannot say it was detrimental.

  • Had this wine, the 2006 vintage, first time in 2009 maybe and thougth it was very promising, escpecially the nose. Then had it again 1 year later and it was very unbalanced and not very good. Then drank the final bottle late 2011 and it was really something special. Tasted like honey. Bought a case of the 2009 for 19 euro or so per bottle. A true bargain.
This rating is based on my third bottle.

  • Well developed Riesling. Leaner than some other mid range Rieslings from Kamptal. Dominant falvours of orange shell, coconut cream, a bit of white pepper and almonds. A slight harsh end, but whatever. Maybe still a little bit too young, although a certain ripeness is surely detectable. I'd guess the optimum is summer 2012. Very nice Riesling for a fair price.

  • Intense lemon oil and crushed rocks on the nose. The fruit built steadily while the wine was in the glass - showing that intense 2006 fruited character. Luckily, the finish here was intensely acidic. Probably not a long time ager, but a nice wine today!
