  • Drank at Alinea. Way too alcohol forward, definitely a bunch of minerality, didn’t get much of anything else.

  • Noble of purpose.
Directly after a 10% abv Mosel Trocken, this strikes me a bit boozy, and it mostly recovers. One habanero-tamari pork steak and greens in blue cheese hastens its focus. It tastes like rosy peach perfume, red delicious apple peel, muscadine, and sticky clover. A drink is girded with arid, marble structure—more elaborate than linear. A reassuring stain of bitterness persists on the finish; it tastes like antique, alpine, medicinal syrup. The linkage of flavor here is remarkably proportioned, which is saying something considering its generous volume and mass. This is full of action. This is amusing. The limiting factor for me is wooziness. Set it aside for days to come.

24 hours later, served cold, it's improved. Like Spätlese/Auslese feinherb, muscat-scented, drupe/piña/pome, rotund, peppermint crisco cake frosting, and balanced well with acidity and gripping mineral. If it crushed it would be 90-93. I wouldn't be shocked if it improved with 2-5 yrs. cellar age.

  • Certainly showing less Riesling in this vintage, a bit rounder, less bright and piercing. Nice but not punching so far above its weight in the other two vintages I have tried

  • A bit sweeter and less pleasing than the previous vintage.

  • I have scored previous vintages of this wine 91-92. I don't know if my slightly lower rating here reflects the vintage, my changing tastes or my growing curmudgeonliness. Anyway, it's still a very enjoyable wine with great fruit, round mouthfeel and a definitely sweet finish. I only wish it had a little more acidity as a counterpoint. A blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner.
