Loads of ripe plums and blackcurrants up front. The tannins are soft and well-integrated but there is still plenty of structure and this could easily go another 3-4 years. There was a lot of saddle leather and game after opening but a lot of it blew off with some time and air. There was also a lot of sediment after I pulled the cork, so give the inside of the neck of the bottle a wipe before pouring or decanting.

Deep red. Black cherry & plum like a year ago with nicely mellowed tannin well balanced with acidity. Wonderful mouth feel and a deliciously long finish. Time has been very good to this Howell Mtn Cab.

You'll want to stand this up for a while or filter it as there is lots of sediment. Classic mountain cab/black fruit flavors and still loaded with nice tannins. Opened for about 45 minutes and served with grilled black angus, salad and wild rice with a beautiful sunset view on Block Island. What could be better? Many years left in this unlike to 2000 Pine Ridge Rutherford which has peaked.

Deep red w/purple hue. Black cherry & plum with an earthiness uncharacteristic in cabs. Nice integrated tannin - not over bearing. Lingering long finish. Opened this alongside 04 Behrens & Hitchcock Left Blank Cab to contrast wines from the eastern & western ridges above the north end of Napa Valley. http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=651814 You can look directly across the valley from Spring Mtn to Howell Mtn (or the reverse). Both lovely wines but with very different character.

Holy shit! Magnificent, completely integrated mature CA cab. Graphite, cassis, dark fruits, long finish. Absolutely ready and perfect. Luscious. Drink now.
