Le Chiuse is part of the Biondi-Santi family, and the vineyard used for this was an inherited plot originally part of original Biondi-Santi family estate.
Similar to the old school Biondi-Santi Riserva, this is not distinguished from the Annata through different vinification. Instead, it is done through bunch selection of the smallest bunches from the oldest vines. The wine is then made in the traditional style, and only released after 10 years, hence the Diecianni label.
2013 is a vintage I absolutely love, and this one of the best examples I’ve tasted to date. Absolutely stunning. Incredible concentration and power yet it retains such poise and elegance. Combining layer upon layer of flavour, intricately assembled into a whole as if by a Swiss watch maker of old. Never one to advocate for decanting Brunello, but this REALLY shouldn’t be. What a stunner of a wine. Not a single thing out of place.

The mouth is still very austere. We step straight into the world of traditional Brunello Riserva. Austere yes, but of great depth. The juice has a grainy texture that allows it to sustain a strong intensity in the mouth. The aromas of leather, dead leaves and saffron follow one another in a structured way. Flawless balance with an acidity integrated into the wine, which remains very compact, perhaps even of a severe aspect. Great finish on a black fruit and coffee that line the throat for a long time.
Excellent, but it will take another 5 years at least to untie and express its full potential.

Deep nose on leather, tobacco and balsamic.
