  I am more impressed with this estate's current production than I was back in 2006, but this has turned into a tasty little wine. Slight herbal (not negative) notes in the nose. Medium-light in weight, silky and creamy texture, slightly earthy dark cherry fruit, good length in the mouth. Cellared since original release.

  Aromas with green notes. Guessed it was a Cabarnet Franc. Light in the mouth with rather hard tannins. A bit disappointing. Has tasted better wines from this producer. Needs food.

  Masculine Spatburgunder with good acidity. Still fresh and fruity with red fruit on the nose and a good finish. My last bottle. Would buy again.

  ... Der Spätburgunder S 2006 vom Weingut Mayer-Näkel war euphemistisch formuliert: leicht, sehr kräuterlastig, bestechend eindimensional und sehr durchschnittlich im Abgang. Wenn Frucht vorhanden war, dann die von ziemlich staubigen und schwachbrüstigen Kirschen. Auch eine längere Belüftungszeit über die Nacht hinweg erwies sich leider nicht als vorteilhaft. In den ersten eineinhalb Stunden der Verkostung habe ich mich noch daran geklammert, dass der Spätburgunder S doch noch irgendwie und irgendwo und irgendwann aufmachen könnte … Pustekuchen! Sehr enttäuschend! ...
