This Pinot Blanc is one of Left Foot Charles’s few single vineyard designates. When I tasted there in 2021, they said the Island View Vineyard was the front yard of a retired German engineer, who practically knew all of the vines by name. He recently passed, and I hope LFC continues to make this.
Zippy green apple, lemon, and tart finish, perhaps some white peach too. There is a roundness and slight warmth (aging on the lees?) that distinguishes this from being just a summertime glou glou.
Paired very well with chicken thighs on a bed of carrots, lemon slices, artichokes, olives, and torn bread.
The wine has rounded out since my last bottle, and lost a hair of acidity. Drink now or hold for 12-18 months.
