This is a famous wine in certain circles, reputedly the best Muscadet of its era, but I think its time has come and gone. I had a bottle a few years ago from a different source that was advanced, but this one seems correct. It's all honeyed lemon and woolly earth, almost Chenin-like but without Chenin's body, getting soft in the midpalte, just a bit washed out/dilute but good length. Better with food and has held up well but not really remarkable.

Right-Bank Classicals (Dobbs Ferry, Dale's House): Everyone loved this and I was no exception. Quite smooth and wonderfully integrated with good brightness. I like Dale's descriptors: "wet rocks topped with lemon zest and oystershell". I don't have any experience with mature Muscadet, but this seemed young to me, so fresh. A-

Charming because of age and quality but not exciting. Despite my love of great muscadet, I think this a great example of how these wines should be drunk somewhere between 7-20 years of age. This is just a bit faded and without any intensity. Still, it is a good wine and proves these are worth one's serious attention.

Really loved this. At first it seems very similar to the 2002 with a blast of bright Meyer lemon fruit over a base of crushed stone with faint yeasty accents on the nose, but a little air really brings out the complexity here. The fruit feels richer with a sense of sweetness on the palate, and there's a savoury crackery, almost slightly smoky element that emerges on the nose with time. It still has amazing vibrancy and freshness on the palate, and while it's drinking superbly now I imagine this could hold for a while longer.

Fresh, oily citrus acidity and intense minerality. Crushed seaside rocks round out a short finish.
I was served this one day after opening (apparently a sommelier recommendation) - its a pretty wine, though I wonder how different it was on day 1.
