Consumed at Number 8 wire in Roturua. Light color, almost pale pewter. Melon notes, green apple, crisp pear. A slight flinty undercurrent, but one that is understated. Excellent QPR, at least here with a strong U.S. dollar.

This was a trip down memory lane as we had not drunk this wine for many years but when I first got into wine in the mid 1980’s, NZ Sauvignon Blanc was the new kid on the block and Hunter’s, with its association with Northern Ireland, was a regular and exciting visitor to our table. So, what was it like? Well not much seemed to have changed; the green grassy nose was followed by a vibrant gooseberry palate with only a hint of the lime and lemongrass suggested by the label. Paired very well with scampi and chips.
