  Sweet dark fruit, spice, and structure under $30 — what else do you need to know? Tasty on its own, and probably stellar with hearty pastas or braised meat. Good now, good whenever you want to open it.

  Strawberry and red fruit on the nose. Oak and tar on the palate. Plum finish.
  
  Medium bodied. Mild acidity and mild to low tannins. Could have waited another year, as it was still a bit aggressive.
  
  Upon opening up, slight earthy notes on the finish with more muted plum.

  Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): Very bright and fruity and yet again there is more balance and classic styling. It’s not always my favorite grape but I appreciated this.

  Nose is quite closed but hints of small berries. Somewhat reminiscent of Gamay. Super concentrated and peppery. Long and dense. Assertive and serious. Everyone is very excited by this but I find it forbidding and harsh.
