Great QPR, modern style, Barbaresco for those who don’t want to wait for their Nebbiolo from Piemonte to age for 20 years. Perhaps slightly too much oak for my taste. But this makes this a very accessible entry for people new to Barolo/Barbaresco. It lacks the complexity and refinement that a classic, and properly aged, Barbaresco will give you.
This one is better than the 2019 Barolo that we tasted side by side.
Light ruby with some amber at the rim. Fresh cherry/berries with some cinnamon and floral hints initially. After some time in the glass this evolves to hints of leather and a bit vanilla. Medium-full bodied with chewy-smooth tannins and balanced fresh acidity. The finish is long and has a slightly bitter twist to it. Nicely balanced already, will probably smooth out a bit more over time. But I don’t expect it too develop a lot more complexity. Drink now - 2030

Excellent QPR - this is a promising Barbaresco, just too young at this stage, Carries some baby fat, unresolved tannins, and prominent alcohol, as you may expect from a 6 year old reserve. Yet there is also a surprising sweetness and mellowness, dark cherry, liquorice–which is already quite inviting. This will be an educated crowd-pleaser in 2 years - unrivalled at less than $25.

Subtle sweet cinnamon/spice and red fruit/berries on the nose. Medium to full bodied, smooth and supple, showing ripe red toned fruit with cinnamon notes, smooth, firm tannins and firm acidity. Very good and great pairing with the various meat dishes at Gastrogrill Mure’ .

Decanted 2hrs and tasted throuyghout. Initial: little red fruit at first, mostly salted butter, some dates and leather. Little strawberry and licorice. After leaving it decnated it gave a strawberry jam and strong licorice on the nose, medium long finish with strawberry jam, anise, tobacco box, cedar and undertone of sour cherry. Tannins harmonized a bit through the evening, strong acidity still. I got a feeling of between a Bordeaux cab-dominated cedar/spice, Rioja's butter and sour cherry and some strawberry and anise of the nebbiolo. If you open it, decant 2 hrs and it brings wonders. Otherwise a bit one-sided.
