Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Blend of mostly Carmenère and an indigenous Veneto varietal called Oseleta that I hadn’t heard of. Not decanted. Mid garnet with obvious evolution. Dried fruit, cured meat, smoke and forest floor on the nose. Palate shows high acidity and a light caress of tannin on the finish. A really terrific food wine, as most Italian wines are. A good pairing would be barbecue but this paired surprisingly well with Hakka tonight. I wouldn’t age it much more - it is very ready and probably doesn’t have much left in the tank. An excellent value at $38 CDN and for my taste, a clear winner over those extracted fruit-driven oaky modern Chilean Carmenères.
