  • Even more leafy than a previous bottle, this one verging on a nettle-like flavour, again backed by a little earthiness and blackcurrant. Swirling revealing somewhat richer fruit.

The leafiness extends to the palate, though a little better balanced against the still youthful fruit. Furry tannins come through on the finish giving an almost milky texture, but also bringing a touch of bitternes. Bright acidity carries throughout.

A lithe wine, yet with structure to spare. A gambler could cellar this for another 5-10 years. I'm not quite sure what would emerge, and with this being our last bottle, I'm not confident enough to seek further bottles.

Might well appeal to those that like leafy Loire Cab Franc wines.

  • Healthy colour for the age, with a relatively narrow band of bricking at the rim, and the core still quite deep purple/claret.

The nose is remarkably earthy with a subtle creosote accent, but backed by leafy blackcurrant. Seems to speak more of the Cabernet Sauvignon than the Sangiovese. Swirling reveals a richer more integrated nose, but very much still with the earthiness to the fore.

The fruit moves to the foreground on the palate, again leafy blackcurrant, with the earth hiding mostly unseen in the background. Acidity refreshes in support, but leaves the leafy fruit to see out the finish.

Pleasant, interesting in it's way, but not a particularly cerebral or beguiling (somewhat) older wine. I'm not sure I see any upside either. Fairly priced at £17.50 (Oct 2016) and might make a pleasing lower priced aged wine for an xmas table.

  • Enjoyable - not outstanding but certainly tasty. Probably wouldn't buy again.

  • Wine Education Service - Tuscany: Dark ruby, youthful.
A vegetal nose with bloody meat.
This wine will drink well in 4 to 5 years, medium tannin and acidity..
