Still going strong after 16 years. Blackberries, black cherries, black raspberries, licorice and some earthiness in the nose and flavor. Nice complexity and a medium to long finish.

Cayuse dinner: Another killer bottle that is still holding its own 15 years on. Really beefy on the nose with black olives, menthol, on top of mulled blueberries. Smooth tannins, integrated really well, the acidity is moderate, no VA issues with this bottle. Pepper, menthol, barbecue sauce and charcoal pit elements complement the blueberry fruit, which has waned but is still going. Past its prime but holding well.

Copain Syrah Tasting (My Place - Washington, DC): Whoa, so smoky and bacony on the nose, and some menthol and mint elements, on top of saucy blueberries. Some volatile acidity on the palate, but not a lot, and its woven in well, and the tannins are quite soft. Tangy blueberries and blackberries, fruit still going, but the wine is just packed with olives and black peppercorns and bacon fat. Loving the smooth, savory aspects in this wine, but definitely at the end of its run. Still lovely, though!

cork was dry and broke off. it was stored correctly. cork showed color 25% up. confirming proper storage. dark purple in color with slights signs of turning brickisk. tart, sour dark fruit is immediate in the nose.. almost thinking it had turned.. but it wasnt.. sourness blew off a tad after sitting a few minutes. picked up some ripe dark berries and cherry, ash, red clay, dry asphalt. not overly complex in the nose, showing age. it peaked in aromatics with in 15 minutes.. started to fad after that. mouth feel is medium in body.. a tad lacking for "big" syrah..maybe its the age, but i have had several syrahs at this age and they had more guts.. some were still monsters. not a lot of tannin, but it is consistent across the pallet. the pallet echos the nose. shows some spice, but a fair amount of tart sour dark berries and cherries.
