This wine drank amazingly well tonight and deserved the lofty score given.. It combines two things I love that are rarely present together, rich, juicy dark fruit of currants, plum, and blackberry, yet is still light on the palate and gets a nice lift from ample acidity (medium plus level). The key is to drink this while it is below 70 degrees F. In the mid to high 60's, this is an experience I seek often though rarely get. As it warms, it will get some of the more familiar ripe flavors and a little heat, but those characteristics are not there at the right temperature. The extra three years has done wonders for this (and threw off a fair amount of sediment) since I last tasted, and cudos to Kris for making a red as wonderful as her whites.

A 93 point nose! I thought I was about to taste similar flavors of a Jaffurs syrah judging by the nose. When tasted we all were disappointed. The wine seemed like the acidity was a bit high and the ripe fruit flavors that we have been tasting in California syrahs were not there. It was more like tart fruit, but needed some riper flavors to compliment the tartness.

Consistent with earlier note. Paired nicely with a lamb shank at Palomino in LA.
