Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): We were just discussing the previous day Dolcetto and pizza wine and so when we adjusted our calendar and had a totally free day on a Saturday (aka - no way to make reservations) we embraced the pizza (we are in Italy after all). Dolcetto is one of the more under loved grapes that I actually quite enjoy. It’s always a bit more fruit forward but with this almost leathery undertone that keeps it balanced. Big and intense and yet again one of those Italian wines that completely changes when paired with foods (especially the acid in a tomato sauce). Easy to drink and enjoyable and while not the best wine we’ve had on the trip a nice value.
