This a more serious wine than I expected. Most Hedges wines are very fruit forward and ready to go on release. This wine initially showed very little, but with over 3 hours of air it is continuing to improve. The nose shows red fruit, some VA (in a good way), and saddle leather. The palate was very, very closed, but now it has opened. The hallmark of this wine is minerality. It is among the most mineral of any wine I have had from the Evergreen State. I also find chalk, coffee, and blackberries. While the wine has terrific structure, it lacks the focused fruit of a great wine, but it is very good. This is a tasting room only wine for Hedges. I don't know how many cases they made, but I bet it is less than 500. I paid about $50.
