  I drink very little Chilean Cabs but was offered some 80s vintages of the Founder's Reserve and curious to see how these wines can age. Bought two bottles each of 83, 84 and 89 and opened my first 89 with steak at home.
  Pnp. Perfect cork with only the tip soaked. Color looks very healthy in the glass with a fairly dark garnet core and a clear rim. Something like late 90s Bdx. On the nose there is a fair bit of wood spices and some leafy Cab notes. Knowing what I have in the glass this kind of wood notes seem very typical for Chilean Cab.
  I love the freshness on the medium bodied palate (12.5% alc!). Initially a lot of dark berries but with more air also red fruit. Some tobacco and leather. Tannins are just right - there is structure but not intrusive. Short to medium finish.
  Great Cab with food and on its own. Despite the nose, I am sure I would have guessed left bank Bdx 90s blind. Great wine that will last easily for another decade, and curious to try the 83 and 84 soon. 91-92

  Significantly less evolved color than the 1983. No green, shows some dynamic mineral/sandalwood spice to the palate, med/- fine-grained tannin. Worlds greatest incense to the palate.
