It’s 100% Cannonau (Grenache), which I approach with caution as so many of them are overripe, silk smooth, and hot.
This one has plenty of dark ripe fruit, but enough earthy rustic notes to round it into balance. Full bodied and concentrated flavors and definitely has a little heat on the back end. Fruit up front, quickly followed by a herbal/licorice note, dried herbs, then those fade back into a blue/black berry note with some wood spice on a very long finish.
Excellent pairing with duck confit.
